Welcome!

Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, member of the Photography and Digital Imaging Groups

Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a

Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests.

Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between.

Our next Monthly talk is on Thursday 9th May, starting at 2pm, when our speaker will be Chris Truranc with How Dabs and DNA Detect Criminals. Chris joined the Metropolitan Police in 1975 and trained as a Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO). During his more than 38 years in the Met he examined over 25,000 crime scenes ranging from shoplifting to murder, and he started examining crime scene DNA when it was in its embryonic stage. Covering the development of fingerprints from the first burglar arrested using them, to the development and use of DNA in 1964, this should prove an interesting and informative talk.

The venue for this meeting is the Broadway Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway, which is wheelchair-accessible and equipped with a hearing loop.

If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a monthly talk and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.

Best wishes

James
