Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, member of the Photography and Digital Imaging Groups

Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a

Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests.

Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between.

We also arrange visits to places of interest and each month have a General Meeting, open to all members, with a very diverse variety of interesting speakers.

Our next General Meeting is our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 9th June 2022. Detailed information about the AGM has been sent out to members via email or letter. Please note that this meeting takes place in the Council Chamber at Chesham Town Hall, as our usual venue is having some building work, and it starts at 2pm. The AGM will be followed by our usual monthly talk and our speaker will be David Callaghan. David is a former senior director of the West End jewellers Hancocks, which he joined as an apprentice in 1955 and from which he retired in 1987. He is a past president of the Society of Jewellery Historians and is a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Goldmiths. David's talk - Cometh the Day, Cometh the Jewel - presents some of the extraordinary stories and myths that surround notable pieces of jewellery.

If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a, and would like to sample a General Meeting and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.

Best wishes
