Welcome!

Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, former member of the Photography with Digital Imaging Group

Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a

Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests. The u3a is a friendly, member-led organisation, run by the members for the members. Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between. In total we have over fifty different activities at the present time.

Our next monthly talk is on Thursday 12th March and features Fran Sandham with A Solo Walk Across Africa. An acclaimed author and public speaker, Fran Sandham took on the challenge of a lifetime, by walking across Africa from Namibia's Skeleton Coast on the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean near Zanzibar. He was completely alone with no back-up, no support team, no one to carry his gear, no sponsors, no film crew, no journalists, no fuss, no cheering crowds and no strings attached. Fran was an editor at Rough Guides for several years and worked in bookselling and in the voluntary sector before that.

The venue for this talk is the Broadway Baptist Church, which is wheelchair-accessible and equipped with a hearing loop, and the meeting starts at 2pm

If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a Monthly Talk and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.

Best wishes

James
