Our trip to see Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ at the Vaudeville Theatre, London in September was most enjoyable, as was ‘Rain Man’ this month at the Richmond Theatre. This play was adapted from the 1988 film starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, and was our first visit to this beautiful theatre. We very much hope to return to Richmond in future as the journey was so much easier than trips to the West End, where traffic problems are likely to become even worse when work begins on the £4.2 billion super sewer under the River Thames.
We shall therefore have to allow plenty of time to reach the Aldwych Theatre on 5th December to see ‘Tina – the Tina Turner Musical’. We have a full coach for this, and are taking a second party to see the same show on 12th February 2019 but, although this time there is room on the coach, sadly group rate tickets for the show are no longer available.
On 25th July 2019 we are going to Stratford-upon-Avon to see ‘As You Like It’ at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, so are hoping for fine weather while we spend time in the town before the play begins.
We are hoping to see ‘The Lehman Trilogy’ which opens at the Piccadilly Theatre in May 2019 but at the moment are in a queue for group rate tickets for this. Other possible shows are ‘Home I’m Darling’, which starts at the Duke of York’s Theatre in January 2019, ‘The Price’ by Arthur Miller, which starts in early February and ‘Company’, the Sondheim musical, at the Gielgud Theatre.
Other suggestions for future theatre trips would be greatly appreciated. Any Chess Valley U3A member is welcome to join the Theatre Group and should contact the Convenors on email@example.com so that his or her email address can be added to the mailing list.
